The Service and Road Department is responsible for maintaining Township roadways and parks. It is the Service Department's primary job to keep the roads in good condition no matter what the season. When the threat of snow has passed they repair roads, re-establish ditches for proper stormwater runoff, keep storm drains clean and open, remove problem trees in right-of-ways, and assist the Township with numerous other jobs that would otherwise have to be contracted elsewhere.
As Central Ohio prepares for the winter season, we want to remind Violet Township residents of our snow and ice removal philosophy. First and foremost, safety for the traveling public is critical as we execute our snow and ice removal program. Therefore, consistent with previous years, we will adhere to the Snow and Ice Procedures (PDF).
Main roads will be treated first. Examples of main roads are those that connect County and State routes, streets leading to schools and businesses. and the main road(s) within subdivisions that provide primary access to the subdivision.
Side streets, cul de sacs, and dead-end streets will be treated next. Depending on the snowfall rate, significant snow could collect on side streets while main roads are being cleared.
Mailboxes and their supports should be reinforced to withstand the impact of snow during snow and ice removal activities. Mailboxes knocked down due to the weight of snow will not be replaced. However, as time allows and as a service to our residents, township staff will attempt to temporarily reestablish mailboxes and/or their support. This will only occur after the storm event has subsided and all streets are cleared. Note that on occasion, this can take up to a few days.

In the process, programs are working to reduce traffic congestion and improve health and the environment, making communities more livable for everyone.
